Therapy Dog Training UK
Terms of Use
We hate to have too many rules and regulations. However, in order to protect you and your dog from any grey areas we have developed the following terms and conditions which we would encourage you to read.
By making a booking with Therapy Dog Training (TDT UK) you acknowledge that you have read, understood and accept the terms and conditions as detailed:
- All our online training undertaken is kind, fair and reward based using positive reinforcement training methods. The method of reward-based training relies on the use of high value food treats in tiny bite size amounts. The bite size videos ensure your training is fun and rewarding for both dog and owner in the relaxed environment of your own home. In the interests of safety, responsibility and welfare it is important that the following terms and conditions are noted:
- Choke / check chains, prong collars, punitive methods and manhandling of your dog we strongly do not advocate and would be fully discouraged for the lifetime of your dog.
- We would only recommend a maximum training session of 45 minutes per day working with your dog as you would in class. Work through practical sessions as your own pace but do not exceed the 45-minute rule.
- Practice every day but for only 5 minutes per day
- Reward, praise and give your dog lots of affection when he gets things right. This will build his confidence and set him up for success. Never punish your dog for not doing things as you would wish, he may need more time or has had enough for the day.
Always act within the guidelines of the Animal Welfare Act and the Five Freedoms a copy of the Act can be downloaded here: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/45/contents
We cannot take responsibility for the success or otherwise of your training and progress – we are always happy to help if you are struggling with your practical training please email Sarah Ellis our head dog trainer on [email protected]

- Therapy Dog Training UK
By signing up to our specific therapy dog training you agree to the following:
- We only act in an advisory capacity. We are not responsible for the success or otherwise of your canine assisted therapy partnership.
- We accept no responsibility for any accidents or adverse incidents during or outside of your therapy sessions that may affect you, your dog or your clients.
- We strongly advocate throughout our workshops that you ensure you are trained, legally compliant and insured for this specialist work in order to deliver a safe and effective service.
We do not take any responsibility for your conduct in relation to a third-party partner i.e. a therapy setting, employer, therapy client or if you are acting as representative of a pet therapy membership organisation.
We cannot give any guarantees that your dog will be suited to canine assisted therapy and much of our course content will give you guidance to ensure that he or she is suitable for his or her mental health and happiness. However much you would love to volunteer for canine assisted therapy work, your dog is a sentient being and relies on you to be responsible for his safety and well-being. In addition, you also have an added responsibility to protect the clients you might serve.
This course positively discourages any therapy dog training or live volunteering work unless your dog has received appropriate training and most importantly a comprehensive therapy dog assessment undertaken by ourselves, a Therapy Dog Training UK Trusted Trainer, an assessor representing a canine assisted therapy dog charity or a veterinary surgeon.
We are proud advocates of positive reward-based dog training and do not believe in aversive methods or equipment under any circumstances.
